Where are you from and what are you studying?
I’m from Auckland, New Zealand and am in my second year at the University of Melbourne studying a Bachelor of Arts degree. I’m double majoring in Media and Communications and Politics and International Studies!
Why did you pick UC as your college?
My first year at UC was a dream! I choose this college because of its empowered history as the first all-women’s college on the Crescent. UC’s founders fought hard to establish the College we know and love, embodying UC’s motto ‘Love, Passion and Die-Hard Spirit’. Their pursuit of founding a college was rooted in acceptance - an environment we continue to uphold today. I feel continuously lucky to be part of an establishment with a unique and inspirational history.
What's your favourite memory of UC so far?
It's hard to pick my favourite memory from my first year, so I have chosen three that stand out; UC Ball is one of them. Everyone looked outstanding at the Ball and I had one of the best nights of my life celebrating my friendships and our college. I am really looking forward to our 2023 ball and sharing this experience again!
Another one is when the whole college went to watch the women’s netball final against St Mary’s. The UC community showed up in full force that day as we watched the girls play an exciting and well-played game. Last but not least is the extra week spent at college with the cast and crew of the college musical - it was such a special time.
What do you hope to achieve this year as the Student Club President?
I hope to continue to build the connected, welcoming and vibrant community that is UC. I will endeavour to support you all during this transitional time as you grow to consider UC a home, where everyone feels comfortable to express their authentic self and make lasting, meaningful connections. The UC community is special, the respect and spirit that we have for one another and the College is unmatched - I will strive to facilitate an environment that fosters this culture.
What's your best wellbeing tip?
My best wellbeing tip is to keep doing what you love. College and University can be overwhelming at times and it is important not to lose yourself, so if you have a hobby that is important to you, keep it up! Making time for yourself and what you love will make the year even more enjoyable.
Early bird or night owl?
I would consider myself an early bird, but college may have turned me into a night owl!
Instagram or TikTok?
Instagram! I don’t have TikTok, I’m one of those people that watches reels!
We look forward to welcoming all of our new students in a few weeks. Our Student Club runs many of the exciting events and activities around the College, so if you have any suggestions, you can always reach out to the team.
