Why Choose University College
We are a residential college that offers a lot more than just accommodation. Living at UC gives you the opportunity to belong to a friendly, relaxed and supportive community
Why choose UC over other types of student accommodation?
Here at UC we are frequently asked what makes us different from other residential colleges and accommodation options. It’s not an easy thing to capture in words – which is why we encourage prospective students to visit us in person if they can. Students tell us this is the best way to experience ‘the vibe’ of each college.
But in a nutshell, UC is generally defined as relaxed, friendly and supportive, a home away from home where everyone knows and looks out for each other. We have a lot of rural students, who particularly love that we aren’t too formal, and our community has a strong reputation for inclusiveness and support – valuing diversity over conformity.
It’s essential to live somewhere that feels like home, and will help you transition to university life. We are a residential college that offers a lot more than just student accommodation. We are dedicated to providing students with a supportive and enriching living environment.
A humble, tight-knit community with students from all walks of life
UC is a community of 340 residents; a place where you can easily meet people and establish life-long friendships while pursuing your tertiary studies. It’s where you walk down the hallway and know each other’s names. Our first years, returning residents and Resident Tutors all support each other and live together onsite.
At our college, you will meet people from different backgrounds, states and countries, studying a diverse range of degrees. We don’t only take students studying at the University of Melbourne, but also other nearby universities including RMIT, Monash Pharmacy and ACU.
It’s a great lifestyle, with so many sporting, social and cultural activities to choose from, and meals, tutorials and wellbeing programs all included.

A close-knit graduate cohort
Benefit from the support of a small group of graduates in a college environment.
We have a small, but close-knit graduate community at UC, with just six graduate places available each year. Beyond engaging with the vibrant undergraduate student community, you will also be part of the Senior Common Room, alongside our resident tutors and any third year students. You’ll have numerous opportunities for personal and professional development and networking while living with us. Plus, this group works together to plan events and collaborative study sessions, providing grads with the social and study time they need.
Graduate College Life
Graduate accommodation is separate from undergraduates. You’ll get a furnished one bedroom or studio apartment to yourself with a separate lounge, a full-sized bathroom and a kitchenette with basic cooking facilities. All meals are included, as is access to facilities around the college. There is also a Senior Common Room for third year and graduate students, and resident tutors.
