Ensuite Rooms
The majority of our ensuite rooms opened in 2019 after a major expansion of the College. These wings contain 183 modern, private student rooms, each featuring their own bathroom. While each room has a slightly different configuration, they all have hardwood flooring and are fully furnished with a double bed. Our rooms also boast high ceilings and large windows or skylights, which creates an airy and spacious atmosphere throughout the College.
These rooms were built using Passivhaus principles, designed to reduce our environmental footprint while still maximising comfort. They benefit from a well-insulated and air-tight building structure, excellent energy efficiency, no condensation or mould and no draughts. If you’re a light sleeper, they also offer excellent sound-proofing. They also feature a ventilation box on the wall, designed to circulate fresh air and remove steam after a shower. As we have so many of these new ensuite rooms available, there are always plenty allocated to first-year students.
All ensuite rooms include a double bed, mattress/mattress protector, two pillows, desk/chair, bedside table, lamp, fan, bin, blinds, mirror, sink, bathroom (shower & toilet), underfloor heating in bathroom (also functions as wider room heater during winter) and a wardrobe with hanging space, shelving and full length mirror. The loft rooms also have electronic black-out blinds on skylights.
New Sweet Wing
This wing was named after Dr Georgina Sweet, who was a principal founder and benefactor of the College. Georgina chaired the Provisional Committee in 1917 and for the next sixteen years made every effort to secure a site and funds for the establishment of UC.
Our Sweet rooms have either an east or west facing aspect and make the most of the morning and afternoon sun.
Each level of the Sweet Wing has a combined kitchenette and laundry, equipped with a sink, fridge, kettle, microwave, washer, dryer, iron and ironing board.
Roper Wing
This wing was named after Myra Roper, who led our College as the Principal for 13 years, from 1947 to 1960. During her tenure, the College grew more than three times its original size. Myra ensured UC maintained a high academic standard and continued the policy of promoting liberal thinking and ideas.
The Roper Rooms have a north and south-facing aspect, making the most of natural light and views of the city.
Each level of the Roper Wing has two combined kitchenettes/laundries, equipped with a sink, fridge, kettle, microwave, washer, dryer, iron and ironing board.
Loft Rooms
Our ensuite rooms on the top floor of the Roper and Sweet Wings feature a loft, accessible by a fold down ladder. This space can be used as a mezzanine lounge room area, book nook, extra storage space or whatever else you desire. Most of these rooms feature a skylight window.
Each loft room has access to a shared combined kitchenette and laundry, equipped with a sink, fridge, kettle, microwave, washer, dryer, iron and ironing board.
Disability Access Rooms
The college has four disability access rooms, one on the ground floor of the Syme Wing and three in the New Sweet Wing (accessible via the lift). All rooms feature a large ensuite (equipped with railing), wide doorways, low desk and extra floor space.
