Leggatt Rooms

Leggatt Wing was opened in 2008, and named after Lady Dorothy Leggatt. She was the first woman to edit the University of Melbourne magazine, where she wrote an article advocating for the creation of a non-denominational residential college for women. She worked for 20 years to help establish the College, and was appointed to be one of the first Governors to chair a Building Appeal Committee and also served on the College Council for many years.

Our Leggatt rooms have a large ensuite and floor plan, are carpeted and have an east, north and west facing aspect, with large windows to make use of the natural light. The East facing rooms overlook the beautiful McEwan Courtyard and capture the morning sun, with the West facing rooms overlooking Royal Parade, attracting the afternoon sunshine. These are some of the largest rooms at UC, and are therefore generally occupied by returning students.

Each level of the Leggatt Wing has a kitchenette (equipped with sink, fridge, kettle and microwave) and a lounge space for residents. There is a laundry on the top floor with washers, driers, irons, ironing boards and a drying cupboard.

All Leggatt room include a double bed (one room has a single bed), mattress/mattress protector, two pillows, desk/chair, bedside table/drawers, lamp, bin, blinds, large wardrobe with hanging space and shelving, full-length mirror, large ensuite bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity and split system air conditioning/heating or ceiling fan.
